Allergy Symptoms

Sneezing, a possible symptom of allergies

To understand your allergy, you need to know when your allergies are troubling you. To do this, you have to recognize all potential allergy symptoms. Some of the most common allergy symptoms to look out for are:

Itchy, watery eyes

Itchy eyes caused by allergens

Airborne allergens come into direct contact with your eyes.

Runny nose

Allergens enter your nose and the membranes become irritated and swollen, produce fluid that’s thin and clear.

Sneezing

Sneezing is a reaction to histamine, related to the itchiness and swelling inside the delicate membranes in your nose and throat.

Scratchy or itchy nose and/or throat.

Sore nose caused by allergens

You can even suffer from itchy ears and an itchy roof of your mouth, all this discomfort can drain your energy and disrupt your day.

Sinus congestion

Sinuses become swollen and blocked. Allergy sufferers have described it as a tight or heavy sensation in the head, cheeks or forehead, a feeling of being “blocked,” “stuffed up,” or as if they’re “underwater.”

Skin reactions

Apart from classic hay fever symptoms like sneezing, blocked or running nose, tiredness and itchy eyes, allergies can also appear in other forms. For instance, if you’re allergic to nickel in jewelry, you may develop contact dermatitis: redness, scaling or a rash. Other allergies, including many in the list above, can appear as urticaria or hives: weals (raised white circles) or flares (red, flattened blobs) on your skin. In chronic cases, the rash and itchiness can cause sleepless nights.
